Details About Four Points by Sheraton Destin-Fort Walton Beach

The Four Points by Sheraton Destin-Fort Walton Beach has multiple buildings on its beachfront property. The first building hosts the front desk, meeting rooms, a bar, the little convenience store, a business center, an ATM, bike rentals, and a restaurant.  Out the back door of this building, you’ll see two buildings, one on either side, with guest rooms, and a pool area in between them. As you walk past the pool you’ll see two seating areas with fire pit tables and then the hot tub.

At the end of this Marriott hotel in Florida is the largest building that sits beachfront. The lower level is covered parking and a laundry room. Above that are 6 floors of guest rooms and suites. Next to that building is the Upper Deck Beachside Bar & Grill with outdoor seating and the other pool. Finally, a short walk down the boardwalk and your feet are sinking into the soft white sand.

At the Four Points in Fort Walton Beach, there are 204 guest rooms and 12 suites. In the largest, beachfront, building there were 84 of those rooms and 12 suites. When we were booking our room we had originally planned on just getting a 2 queen bedroom, but last minute decided to upgrade to one of the suites. In looking at the rooms, we felt that the price difference was well worth it. The suites are located at the two ends of the building on each floor, and all of the rooms in this building have exterior entrances, so there is no enclosed hallway to get to them. There are also stairs on both sides of the building, and an elevator in the middle.

About the Suites at the Four Points in Fort Walton Beach, Florida

In our suite, there was a small entryway with a table. For us, during these times, this was great for putting our face masks, hand sanitizer, and other such items. The bathroom was a good size with a spacious countertop, hairdryer, and a drying line in the shower (which is helpful with bathing suits and beach towels). After the bathroom, there was a full-size mirror, two queen beds, a dresser, desk, and television. The one thing the room did not have was a luggage rack. However, we were able to use a small ottoman and the desk for our suitcases.  The beds were plenty comfortable. The artwork in the room was nice, but nothing remarkable enough to leave an impression, with the exception of the piece in the bathroom. That photo inspired me to spend some time under the nearby pier taking photos!

Just past the beds, there was a kitchen with good sized refrigerator, microwave, sink, coffee pot, and lots of cabinets and counter space, along with two bar stools along the counter. This was one of the reasons we chose the suite. Having the extra counter space was very helpful since we still eat most of our meals in our rooms. After the kitchen, there was a living area with a pull-out sofa bed, a cute chair, and another television. There was a small window behind the couch area that looked out to the west, and down on the beach. Also, on the interior wall, there was an adjoining room door, which would be great if you’re visiting with others.

The Suites Have the Best Patios!

At the end of the room was the balcony. This was the other reason we chose the suite at this Marriott hotel. All the rooms in this building had a balcony overlooking the beach. However, the balcony with the suites were much larger! There was enough room for a table, two chairs, a side table, and two lounge chairs! We figured, even if it were raining or the beach was crowded, we could still relax on the balcony and have the ocean air in our faces. If the outdoor restaurants had too many people, we could eat our meals on our own balcony! Our balcony also wrapped a little around the outside edge of the building. This was great because it helped us get some afternoon sun, and block some of the wind.  We could also look down to the restaurant to see how busy they were before heading down.

Overall, there are 7 different types of rooms available: 1 king with no view in the East building, 1 king with a courtyard view in either the East or West building, 2 queens with a courtyard view in either the East or West building, 2 queens with a beach view in the beachfront building, 1 king with a beach view in the beachfront building, 2 queens suite with a beach view in the beachfront building, and 1 king suite with a beach view in the beachfront building.

Food at the Four Points Destin-Fort Walton Beach

Since we were there at the beginning of their busy season, they were still just getting things going at the Upper Deck Bar & Restaurant, and they were short-staffed and still training some of the staff they had. We ate a couple of meals from them, and for the most part, they were good. The best thing, in my opinion, was the Nutella French Toast for breakfast! It was sooo yummy. I didn’t even get a picture of it because I just dove right in! We had a few other things, like Short Rib Grilled Cheese, Gulf Grouper Street Tacos, Cheeseburger, and the Grouper BLT. We tried to order a milkshake because that sounded yummy, but the girl working then said she hadn’t been trained on how to make those yet.

What Was Around the Four Points by Sheraton in Fort Walton Beach

Most importantly, we were in a beachfront hotel. While we were there it was a little windier than normal, but it was still great to have the sand in our toes and salty air in our faces. I mean, we were right on the beach! Just a couple of steps outside of our building. It was great! Right next door to our hotel in Florida was the Gulfarium. Because of that, the beach to that side was not crowded at all!

From our hotel room balcony, I could actually see the little penguins from our balcony (with binoculars). The Gulfarium Marine Adventure Park has various marine life and is dedicated to educating, entertaining, and inspiring guests. They aren’t accredited by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums, which is something I typically look for, but they are accredited by the Alliance of Marine Mammal Parks & Aquariums. Some of the marine life you’ll see includes dolphins, stingrays, turtles, harbor seals, penguins, alligators, seals, and many other fish and underwater wonders!

Go Fishing on the Okaloosa Pier

Next door to the Gulfarium in Fort Walton Beach, is the Okaloosa Island Fishing Pier. As of right now, the cost to just go walk the pier is $2 a person. Since it is a fishing pier, you can also get a fishing pass, which includes a fishing permit. For adults, the cost for that is $8 a person. There are various different levels of passes and gear you can rent, including purchasing bait and tackle.  Next to the pier, there are restaurants and stores you can visit. One of the restaurants is the Crab Trap, and we had 2 delicious meals from there! In all honesty, I got the same thing twice because it was so good!

Across the street is Wild Willy’s Adventure Zone. We didn’t go in here, but it’s a great place for fun for the whole family! They have race tracks, bumper boats, miniature golf courses, laser tag, a 4D movie experience, treetop challenge, and an arcade. Plenty of things to keep those kiddos occupied for a while!

Down the road is Destin, and there is plenty more to do there. However, I’ll have more of that to come in another post!

Would I Recommend the Four Points by Sheraton Destin-Fort Walton Beach

I would 100% recommend this Marriott hotel in Fort Walton Beach, near Destin, Florida, to someone wanting to visit the area! In the beachfront building, the views are great! For the other room locations, while they may not be able to see the beach, there is a beautiful courtyard with a pool and lounge area. There’s good food at the hotel, with plenty of other great options very close as well! Plus, you can enjoy your meals beachfront! We didn’t have kids with us, and we enjoyed the location, but know that families would enjoy it as well.

I will say, the hotel next door has a lazy river pool that looks a little cooler than the pools at the Four Points in Fort Walton Beach. However, our beachfront hotel has two outdoor pools and a great green space for playing in, so that is great (especially for staying socially distant). Also, the hotels seemed to get bigger and more crowded as you worked your way down on the beach, so the small crowd on the beach that came with our hotel was wonderful!

We didn’t realize it when we booked the room, but we actually ended up being in Florida during Spring Break time. Places were definitely getting crowded in the area of Fort Walton Beach and Destin, and I’m sure it would only get more crowded during the summer, so, as always, if you would like to avoid crowds, I would recommend going in a shoulder season. This was another reason that the larger balcony was well worth it, with its beachfront views.
